a beautiful story of persistence. May 07 2012, 1 Comment
WELCOME MARIE DENISE!

We are so excited to announce that just this week, we hired another 3 Cords employee, Marie Denise!
We first got to know Mary Denise last year in the prosthetics lab. Mary Denise came to get fitted for a new leg. She had lost her leg the year before the earthquake in a car accident, but thankfully because of the earthquake and the amazing response of the rest of the world to bring prosthetic care to earthquake victims, she too was able to get prosthetic care. (Before the earthquake in Haiti, it was extremely difficult for an amputee to get a prosthetic leg, because there was only one facility in all of Haiti trying to fit legs for thousands of pre-earthquake amputees.) Thankfully, Mary Denise found our lab at Mission of Hope and was able to learn to walk again with a new leg.
Well, since we first met Mary Denise, over a year ago, she has not stopped calling our Haitian supervisor, Marie Maude, EVERY SINGLE WEEK. every single week, for a year. Why? She wanted a job. SO BAD. For a long time, we were not able to afford hiring another woman, so sadly we had to keep telling her no, even though she was at the top of our list. But finally, thanks to your purchases, we finally had the means to hire her—which is so exciting! Mary Denise lives in Port- au-prince with her mom, dad, and 3 daughters. She is SO HAPPY to finally have a job, and we are so happy to have her with us!
So all in all…your purchases = more Haitian women being employed = a beautiful picture of redemption in this broken world (plus, you get to enjoy really cool stuff!)
THANK YOU!!
