Meet Rosenie Payoute June 27 2012, 1 Comment

When asked to share about her life story, this is what she wanted to share with you:

"Hi, my name is Rosenie Payoute, and I am 26 years old.  Before the earthquake, I was living with my uncle and my two sisters, and I worked as a merchant selling beauty products.  When the earthquake hit, I was at church at the 4:00 service.  I was standing up praising God with all my strength, and the worship music was really good that night.  Suddenly, the ground started shaking and the wall of the church fell on me.  It landed right on my right leg.  People were able to pull me out the same day, and they took me to the hospital but there was no one to help me.  It took a week for doctors to get to me because there were so few doctors.  Then, I had two operations.  At first, they didn’t think they would have to amputate but then they did because they saw my leg was infected.  They amputated my leg above my knee.  Life was very difficult, but I continued working as a merchant with one leg.  One day, a woman who was buying from me told me about Mission of Hope and that I could go there to get a prosthetic leg.  I didn’t have a ride and she brought me there.  Mission of Hope made my first leg.  When I met Diana, she asked me if I wanted to work at 3 Cords when they could begin hiring more people.  After a few months, they called me and I was so happy!  Now, I work at 3 Cords, and my life is so much more stable and I never have to ask anyone for anything because I make enough money each day.  I never have to wonder if people will buy from me today.  Life is no longer stressful, and the ladies at 3 Cords make me laugh and smile every day.  I find so much encouragement through all the people who work at 3 Cords and the prosthetics lab at Mission of Hope."

Rosenie is a quiet, but strong soul, always hard at work in her little nook in the corner of the sewing room.  She doesn't say much throughout the day, but every word that comes out is thoughtful and beauty-full.  We are so thankful for her graceful presence in 3 Cords!! <3
